Supplemental Services Information

Office of Federal Programs & No Child Left Behind
Federal guidelines from the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) require that Title I schools identified as not making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two or more years offer students the choice of transferring to other district schools. It is important to understand the options available to you and your family.
NCLB Choice: Procedure and Timeline

The following Title I schools have been identified as "in need of improvement." They did not meet the AYP requirements for their grade levels.
The percent of students scoring proficient, for the 2009-2001 SY, must be: for ELA 58.8 and for Math 57.8 in order for the school to meet the AYP objectives ELA and mathematics.
1. Hardeeville Elementary School
2. Ridgeland Elementary School
3. Ridgeland Middle School

Students at these schools have the option of:
1. request a transfer to attend The SC Virtual Charter Schools; or
2. remain at the school and request free tutoring from a state approved provider in the fall of 2010; or
3. remain at the school and participate in the school wide programs.

|
|
Criteria for Selection for Supplemental Services (SES):
· Parent selection of state approved tutor
· Student eligibility for Federal Free or Reduced Lunch Program
· Student ranking based on academic need (should there not enough funds to implement)

Procedures and Timeline
|
|
1. No Child Left Behind Parent Choice Notification Process:
Parents of students enrolled in eligible Title I schools will be notified by the following media venues of their
options for Public School Choice and Supplemental Educational Services (SES) in Jasper County
School District (JCSD)
|

|
· Letters will be mailed to the homes of the students enrolled in the eligible Title I schools notifying parents of their options;
|

· Press release on the JCSD district’s website (This is the Public Notice Page) and in the following newspapers
|
Week of July 25, 2010

Week of August 2 and August 9th
|
|
Parents have the right to request a transfer from Title I Schools identified for school improvement as defined by the federal law :

Parents must complete and submit the JCSD NCLB Public School Transfer Request Form by:

Parents must accept or decline the transfer to the SC Virtual Charter School or Accept Supplemental Education Services (SES)

Parents should contact the SC Connects Virtual School to request a transfer no later than 2 school days before the school year begins.
|
|
|
Confirmation Process: Parents will receive two final Public School Choice Confirmation Forms (Sending / Receiving).
|
|
|
SES Procedures and Timeline: The timeline for SES will be published as soon as it is received from the South Carolina Department of Education.
|
|
|
Withdrawal / Enroll Process: IF SCHOOL CHOICE IS AN OPTION.
|
|
· Parents are to take the Public School Choice Confirmation Form Sending School Copy to withdraw their child from their home school.
|
|
|
· Parents are to take the Public School Choice Confirmation Form Receiving School Copy to roll their child into their newly assigned school.
|
|
|
· Parents must enroll their child before or on the first day of school, (TBA)
|
|
|
· Transfers will become void if students are not enrolled by the above stated date.
|
|
|
Newly Enrolled Students to the District:
|
|
· Parents must submit a JCSD NCLB Public School Request Form within 30 days of the enrollment date.
|

|
SES Procedures and Timeline:
· Parents will be notified in August of the procedures and timeline for Supplemental Educational Services.
|
|
The Office of Title I uses all personnel and resources to supplement the district’s goals.
