This webpage was designed for the  Office of Instruction and Student Achievement by Joyce Gerald  Coordinator of Instructional Technology

The mission of the Jasper School District Office of Testing  is to provide timely and accurate student assessment information that empowers continuous academic improvement for all students in our school district. We are committed to providing excellent leadership and support for a comprehensive student assessment system that meets the needs of district and incorporates current assessment and data retrieval technology. Our goal is to promote student achievement by providing staff development, test-administration training, scoring services, data analysis, score report interpretation, data disaggregation, and technical support for all stake holders.

Assessment:  Diagnostic, Formative, and Summative

To enhance the district’s diagnostic testing program, we have adopted the Northwest Evaluation Association – Measures Academic Progress (MAP) Assessment Program.

WHAT IS MAP?

· NWEA’s Measures of Academic Progress are electronically administered and scored achievement tests (mathematics, reading, or language usage) designed to measure growth for individual students, classrooms, schools, and district.

The MAP tests provide growth information that is vital in classrooms faced with helping students meet rigorous standards.  MAP helps teachers, schools, and districts to:

· Monitor growth in student achievement over time

· Monitor the progress of all students toward state and district standards

· Place students into appropriate courses or instructional settings

· Provide instructional focus

· Communicate to parents and the community

HOW DO WE PROCEED?

During the first two weeks, after students return (or soon thereafter), a comprehensive MAP assessment will be administered to students in grades 2 – 10.

· Test results will be used to make decisions regarding the curriculum, instructional program, and student needs.

· Teachers in each school will be trained in how to use Descartes and Dynamic Reporting Suites.  The training will  be provided in the following topics:

· Understanding the RIT scale, scores, and percentile rankings

· Understanding score ranges and goal scores

· Reading and interpreting different reports generated from MAP

· Using MAP to focus instruction

· Using the Lexile Framework and the NWEA Learning Continuum to focus instruction

· Setting classroom and individual goals

· Communicating information to students and parents

Using Dynamic Reporting Suites to:

· Set instructional goals

· ·Set target RIT Goals for students

· Communicate instructional goals and students’ achievement levels to parents.

· Prepare a book list that will be shared with parents

· Creating parental involvement activities for parents to use with their children

·Building level administrators are trained in the use of Dynamic Reporting to project student achievement on PASS for grades 3—8.  EOCEP and HSAP predictions are also possible using this data.

ADMINISTRATION SCHEDULE

· See the attached assessment timeline

       Proposed State Testing Calendar

· NOTE:  The high schools semester exam will be comprehensive.  It will include standards from both nine weeks.

TEACHERS’ RESPONSIBILITIES

· Develop an action plan based on the results of MAP that focus on students’ needs and achievement.

· Provide evidence/documentation (lesson plans and actual tests) that areas of weaknesses are being taught and assessed. ( THE BEGINNING OF EACH Nine weeks)—submit them to the building level administrator.

· Provide evidence (portfolio of students’ work) of content taught as a part of the regular curriculum and remediation.
