Text Box: JCSD Parental Involvement Policy

A major goal of the Jasper County School District’s Title I program is to encourage greater involvement of parents in the education of their children in partnership with Title I and their school.  The Jasper County Board of Education recognizes the necessity and value of parent involvement to support student success and academic achievement.  The Jasper County Parental Involvement Policy is developed jointly with, agreed upon with, and annually distributed to parents of participating children.

1.         Parents will be invited to attend a meeting at their local schools during the beginning of the school year for discussion of specifics concerning the instructional objectives and methods of the program.  Parents will be involved as part of the district strategic planning team, the Title I Parent Advisory Board, and the district school improvement teams.  We will involve parents in the development of the LEA Plans and the process of school review and improvement through Parent Forum for recommendation during the spring for the coming year.

2.         The parenting policy and the school/parent compact are distributed to the parents in October.  Other communication to parents includes Title I newsletters distributed four times each year.  There will also be workshop notices sent home with children, phone calls, conferences and home visits as needed.  Parents are encouraged to take the initiative in calling their child’s teacher when they are concerned about a problem.

3.         The capacity from strong parental involvement will be built through opportunities fro parent contact such as:
A.         Phone Contact
B.         Visitation
C.         Annual Meeting
D.         Monthly Workshop
E.         Open House
F.         Parent-Teacher Conference

The teachers will provide progress reports for parents quarterly as well as provide for at least one conference concerning their child’s progress during the year.

4.         We integrate and coordinate our parental involvement strategies with Home Instruction Program for Pre-school, Head Start, and Even Start and the Parenting Program under the Parenting and Family Act.  Parents who participate and have children that participate in any of the program above are encouraged and included in any and all program workshops, or family meetings funded under Title I.

5.         We will conduct an annual evaluation, with parental involvement, to measure the effectiveness of the procedures, content and effectiveness of the parent Involvement in improving academic quality of the school.  Barriers to parents who are economically disadvantaged, disabled, have limited English proficiency, are limited in literacy skills, or are part of an ethnic/minority background, will be identified to ensure greater parent participation in school activities.

6.         Provide support and coordination for school staff and parents to implement and sustain appropriate parent involvement form kindergarten through grade eight.  Design strategies for school improvement and revise policy, if necessary, after meetings and review of findings of evaluation.  Also we will use funding from the school’s annual need assessment survey and recommendation from the school improvement council, along with school renewal plan, to make any changes or additions for the policy.
