Content and Context Alignment:  Since state tests are based on standards, and standards must be included in our instructional program, it is our expectation that alignment between the test and the curriculum occurs at two levels.

a.   The first is called the content alignment and refers to the test content and curriculum content being the same.

b.   The second, context or format alignment refers to the testing protocol and protocol used by teachers being the same (this should not be to the extent to exclude performance assessments).

2.    Each course MUST have an approved curriculum with pacing guide or map.

3.    All teachers MUST teach the curriculum.

4.    All teachers MUST submit lesson plans.  Plans must reflect the standards being taught and tested during a given period.

5.    On the first day of class, high school students will receive a copy of the course syllabus for each class.

6.    The syllabus should reflect the alignment to the curriculum, required reading for each quarter, special projects, etc.  Course         syllabi should be available for parents during PTA meeting or pick-up at the school.

 7.    Formative and summative assessments must be aligned with the curriculum and instruction.

8.     Assessments must be used to guide classroom instruction.

 9.     Middle and high school teachers must implement the HSTW/MMGW Literacy Plan.

10.   Teachers will provide students with “required and recommended” reading lists for their course.

11.    Writing is instructed and modeled, not just assigned.

12.    Use the grading system approved for the district or your department (high school), keep accurate records and weighting when calculating grade.  Records must be available upon request.

13.   Technology must be an integrated part of the curriculum, when appropriate, to enhance instruction.

14.   “One size doesn’t fit all.”  Differentiation must be used to meet student’s needs.

15.   Monthly DRA Reporting of student literacy achievement.

16.   Alignment of instructional practices with MAP data—supported by Descartes@NWEA.

17.   Annual ELSA Literacy Reporting for Pre-K Students

18.   Annual DIAL III Post-Test results

19.  Year end expectations:  Teachers are expected to complete the check out sheet before leaving for the summer.  Classrooms should be left clean and in order.

20. Principals will follow theses procedures to ensure that the classroom environment meets boards standards
