ESOL Welcome to the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program at Hardeeville Elementary School! Our ESOL Program strives to assist learners in the process of acquiring English as a second language, creating a learning environment which provides the cognitive and affective support to help students, whose primary home language is a language other than English, integrate into their school, community, and society. The South Carolina ESOL Standards, as well as the Jasper County School District ESOL Curriculum are used to guide instruction in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The goal of our ESOL program is to provide equal opportunities to students who speak another language and are not yet proficient in English. The goal of Jasper County School District’s English as a Second Language Program is to provide equal educational opportunities to students who have a primary home language other than English. Jasper County Schools strive to create a learning environment which provides the cognitive and affective support to help students whose primary home language is other than English integrate into their school, community, and society. The functional goal for each student should be to achieve listening, speaking, reading, and writing proficiency to be exited from the program and successfully acclimated to the mainstream classroom and school. Elementary Special Needs Classes The program for students with special educational needs, at Hardeeville Elementary consists of one PPCD class, two Multi-Categorical classes and one Resource. The educational Curriculum for these classes is based on the Anderson 5 Curriculum, the South Carolina State Standards and Individual Educational Plans. Due to the differences in age, level of development and Individualized Educational Plans, each of these classes have a different schedule. You can find the detailed schedules either posted by the classroom doors or in the main office. PPCD Multi-Categorical Special Class Program Program Structure - This program is designed for students whose special education needs require specialized instruction on a daily basis in a self-contained setting with other students who are similarly educationally disabled. The class size and composition of this special class is based upon the similarity of educational needs of the enrolled students according to: a. levels of academic or educational achievement and learning rates, b. levels of social development, c. levels of physical development, and d. the management needs of the pupils in the classroom. The class setting includes eleven students, some or all of whose management or instructional needs interfere with the instructional process to the extent that an additional adult, a teacher’s aide, is needed within the classroom during each period of instruction to assist with the management needs of these students.
